About the Mio Motion Activity Monitor
(On demand heart rate plus built-in pedometer)
A quick look at the pedometer feature
The Mio motion has a built in accelerometer pedometer that not only records your steps but also your speed, distance and calories burnt.
Add you own step goal: The Mio Motion pedometer and heart rate activity monitor has an additional feature that most other pedometer watches don’t offer and that is the ability to set your own step step goal. Very motivating!
Eliminates incidental movement: Most accelerometers pedometers offer this excellent feature and the Mio Motion is no different - it doesn’t start counting your steps until you have taken 10 consecutive steps. Which means that is doesn’t count small incidental movements as steps. It is worth noting that because the pedometer is on your arm it can pick up movement of the arm and count them as steps (if you move your arm more then 10 times in a row - eg: doing your hair, folding laundry etc)
You do need to know this... about the Pedometer function:
To save on battery power the pedometer function does turn off when there is no step count for 15 minutes. This won’t matter if you are using this for exercise but if you are wanting to use it for an all day step count you will have to remember to start the pedometer function once you get up from your desk or sofa!
Your heart rate with no chest strap
The Mio Motion uses Smart Touch technology which provides you with an EKG- accurate heart rate within 3 - 8 seconds with a touch of your finger tips - no chest strap required! You can set your personalised training zone too!
You do need to know this... about the heart rate function:
Point 1. Heart rate watches that do not use a chest strap DO NOT offer a continuous heart rate. You must press touch the sensors on the watch to get your heart rate for 3-8 seconds.
All the bells and whistles
The Mio Motion not only offers the step and heart rate functions, it also offers an exerciser timer feature that you can either count up from zero or down to zero. It really is an excellent sports watch.

Q. How accurate is the Mio Motion Activity pedometer function?
A. If you are using the watch for a dedicated walk or run - the pedometer function is very accurate as it uses accelerometer technology. However, if you are using it for everyday step count (eg: wearing it all day to reach 10,000 steps) you will have to allow a few hundred steps as ‘arm movement’ not real steps ie folding laundry, using tools, really dependent in your lifestyle) After all the watch is on you arms! It does have a 10 step filtration feature that does eliminate movement until it reaches 10 then it starts counting.
Q. Is it water proof? Other words can I swim with it?
A. Apparently you can! It’s 50m Water resistant - swimming with it does not mean you can use the functions though! Please carefully read the instructions that come with the Mio Motion - it goes into more details. You can also read this article on our website - it explains about ‘Water Resistance’
Q. What should I know about the Heart Rate function?
A. Many people get confused about strapless heart rate monitors and heart rate monitors with a chest strap. The Number 1 point you need to know is that a Strapless heart rate monitor such as the Mio Motion DOES NOT give continuos heart rate, you have to place you fingers on the watch and wait 3-8 seconds to get a heart rate read, making it an ideal sports watch for walkers but not a good choice for a cyclist or an aerobic class!
