About the Proform heart rate & pedometer watch
This is a fantastic watch for the price. It offers very useful exercise functions such as step counting and heart rate monitoring. In my experience of pedometer watches, it is one of the easier ones to set up and use – you don’t need to be a gadget whiz!
The design is a little masculine but can be easily worn by a lady. I have a small wrist and it didn’t look too big on me – it looked like I was wearing a sports watch. (I wouldn’t wear it to work though, like I would other sports watches.)
I can certainly recommend this watch to walkers who want to make their walking sessions into a workout. It makes an excellent exercise buddy on your dedicated walks.
Looking for an all day Pedometer to measure your 10,000 steps a day?
If you are considering this watch for the pedometer function to count your all-day steps (10,000 steps a day) – You need to read this first!
The pedometer function of this watch, in our testing,
is not suitable for all-day step count for two reasons:
-
This pedometer watch offers two step sensitivities: low or high. Even when I set it on the low sensitivity, it still picked up many of my arm movements. It only offers a 6-step filtration whereas other pedometer watches such as theTech40 offer 16-step filtration before they start counting steps. When I tested the Pro Trainer Plus for my all-day step count, I found it counted at least 1,000 steps over what I had actually done – but my arms are highly active, i.e. I talk a lot with my arms!
-
It has an auto turnoff after 15 minutes of inactivity which you cannot disable. It’s a great feature as it saves on battery and stops counting arm movement. But if you are sitting at your desk typing for more then 15 minutes, the pedometer function will turn off and when you get up you are going to have to remember to turn it back on. It’s just one click of the button, but I forgot a number of times throughout the day!
Is the strapless heart rate function watch suitable for other activities?
If you are a runner, cyclist or do group classes in a gym, I highly recommend that you stay away from not just this heart rate watch watch, but any strapless heart rate monitor.
Why? Because you will need to stop this sort of exercise to be able to free up your fingers to touch the face of the watch to get your heart rate read and that can take 4-8 seconds. A strapless heart rate watch DOES NOT offer continuous heart rate – only heart rate monitors with chest straps can do this!
Returns / Unwanted gift
Please be aware we will only accept this watch as a return/unwanted gift if the watch packaging has not been opened at all. As a gift giver of this type of watch, we recommend you let the receiver know our above comments before they proceed to open the pack! Sorry to sound so tough, but we have given a very honest description above and have highlighted the areas that we see as problematic – what you are reading here is what you get!
Obviously, warranty is totally different and the watch has 12 month’s warranty against manufacturing issues as with all our products.

Q. How long does the battery last in the Proform Pedometer and Heart Rate watch?
The battery life will vary depending on usage of the light, heart rate and pedometer features (which have a high power consumption).
The battery is a standard button cell CR2032.
Q. How does the strapless heart rate function measure your heart rate?
The S-Pulse technology measures the electronic signals that pass through your body as a result of the beating of your heart. This measurement is obtained from the watch’s two sensors: the top metal sensor button and back battery door. The battery door is actually the primary sensor plate that measures these electronic signals off your arm.
The ECG measurement is done when you place your finger from the opposite hand onto the top sensor of the watch. This creates a loop across your body the watch can now read.
