Exercise Minutes and Tips
How many exercise/playtime minutes does my dog need?
30 - 60+ minutes a day – It's a whole lot more fun with a Dog Pedometer…
This will firstly depend on the breed of your dog and then on the age and health of your dog. One thing is for sure though – EVERY DOG young or old should have at least two daily exercise sessions a day, ranging from 15 minutes for a puppy, up to 60+ minutes for a healthy adult dog!
Anything less than 30 minutes daily is not acceptable and you could be putting your dog at risk of all manner of health issues.
How many steps a day should my dog do?
This awesome dog pedometer counts steps as well as activity minutes. We feel it’s more important for your pets sake to focus on 'activity minutes' and not ‘Fido’s’ step count (even though its fun counting the steps as well!)
It’s so important for your dog to be active, ie go for walks and be played with and that’s why we count activity minutes!
30-60 minutes of exercise/playtime will benefit you and your pet…
- It keeps them alert and their mind active
- It helps with all sorts of behavioural problems your dog may have developed due to inactivity!
- It may help them be more social (to humans and other dogs)
- It helps prevention of many diseases, including Diabetes, heart issues etc.
- They will live a longer, happier and more content life
6 paw-fect tips on how to increase your
Pets Activity minutes using your Dog Pedometer
Use your Dog Pedometer to add motivation to your pets Play time and ‘Walkies’. Set yourself (and other family members) mini goals to increase your dog activity minutes...
- Play fetch in the evening for 10 mins (only when your dog pedometer says 10 minutes not timed from you watch!)
- If you like giving your dog /cat pet treats – hide them around the house/garden so they have to sniff them out , this keeps them moving and clocking up those activity minutes!
- Go for a walk first thing in the morning for 15 minutes – you will be pleasantly surprised the difference it will make to your day and your dogs!
- Go for a casual 10 minute walk after dinner, your dog will sleep soundly and so will you!
- When friends and relatives come around to visit – get them all to clock up at least 5 minutes each (on the dog pedometer), ie run around with ‘Fido’, play fetch, play ’tugga’ with a toy. Everyone will have fun and it keeps them active and amused.
- This is a great idea for kids who need a little motivation to get moving…Its fun, rewarding and will reap so many benefits for you, the kids and your dog…
If you have kids, set them a goal of playing with ‘Fido’ ‘x’ amount of activity minutes each. And offer an incentive to the winner at the end of the week ie they can choose the Family DVD movie for Saturday night! Tip: Each child can have their own Dog-a-Log that they can keep track of their own personal playtimes with ‘Fido’.
Most importantly have fun with your Doggy or Pussy Cat :) |
